New Way Aquaponic Farms, established in 2017, is an innovative teaching, learning, and production farm located in the Annesdale-Snowden section of Midtown Memphis, Tennessee. The farm specializes in aquaponics, a sustainable farming method that combines aquaculture (fish farming) with hydroponics (soilless plant cultivation) in a closed-loop system.
Our Mission
Founded with the mission to educate and train both school-age children and adults in the science and art of aquaponic food production, New Way Farms offers hands-on learning experiences that integrate STEM concepts. The farm's approach to agriculture is environmentally friendly, using only 10% of the water required in conventional farming methods.
Educational Programs
New Way Aquaponic Farms provides various educational programs, including partnerships with schools and homeschoolers, to teach practical applications of science, technology, engineering, and math through aquaponics. The farm features indoor demonstration grow rooms and a conference space for formal presentations, as well as culinary demonstrations by chefs to showcase the farm-to-table concept.
Recognition and Future Goals
Recognized for their excellence, New Way Aquaponic Farms was awarded the 2019 Best Management Practice and Farmer of the Year by the TSU Cooperative Extension Service at their Small Farm Expo. The farm's future plans include expanding with a 3,000 sq ft greenhouse to supply local restaurants, specialty markets, and contribute to alleviating food insecurity in Shelby County.
